Joaquin Phoenix, A Poem

I crafted the following poem using only titles from Joaquin Phoenix’s past films. I got my inspiration at 4:00am while sitting in a Dunkin Donuts in Bushwick, Brooklyn. It occurred to me that JP has a lot of movie titles that function equally as phrases: “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot,” “You Were Never Really Here,” and “I’m Still Here” all came to mind.

Anything For Love

Two Lovers, Walking the Dog, Brother Bear.

Reservation Road, Back Beyond the Village.

We Own the Night, Walk the Line.

It’s All About Love.

Her, The Joker.

Mr. Smith, The Master.

Signs: U Turn, Hotel Rwanda, Return to Paradise.

Her: “You Were Never Really Here.”

Mr. Smith: “I’m Still Here.”

Her: “Irrational Man!”

[the dog runs away, spooked by the yelling]

Mr. Smith: “Brother Bear!”

Her: “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.”

Two Lovers, Reservation Road, Back Beyond the Village.

Far Bright Star.
